Since I was about twelve, I have felt very drawn to graveyards and so I wandered through them. Well, mainly one and sometimes two. The first rested at the end of our street, and it was full of historic graves and fascinating yet expired people. I remember how tall the trees stood, and how when daylight bled through them they cast shadows on the ground. The cawing of crows seemed ever present, and I spent countless hours alone slowly wandering through graves and leaves that rested aimlessly on the ground. There was something about their aimlessness that inspired me. They were okay to just do what they wished throughout their existence. And of course they were only leaves, yet everything in The Universe has its purpose.
Wandering through cemeteries inspired inner quiet for my troubled heart. I never fit it with other kids, and later adults, and family issues remained to prevail. For my twenty nine years on this Earth I feel as though much ground has been covered. I have tried so many things, but what I succeed at is writing stories which grow from my heart of memories and inspiration in cemeteries, rain, music, and oddities such as true love and kindness. From all these things, my characters Edgar and Aleka were created.
They are true weirdos who love each other on the basis of who they are deep inside, what they have in common, and the kindred spirits they find in each other. Their attraction is whole hearted and unique, and it has nothing to do with modern socialization. Edgar and Aleka belong together always, but they also belong to the rain, the clouds, the sky, and the joy that lives within all of us.
Creating Edgar and Aleka and the worlds they inhabit, both internal and external, left me with a sense of relief because I was sharing two halves of my personality, and the world which lives within me. There is none of the harshness of our modern world, but true kindness towards each other and all who they meet.
In my own way I am sharing my rainy days with you, my graveyard wanderings, the music which runs through my heart, and my dreams.
I fear that's it for now. I will return soon with further ramblings or updates on my book, Beneath Rain and Stars.
